About Kyrene School District
Kyrene is a PreK–8 district spanning Ahwatukee and parts of Chandler, Guadalupe, Tempe, and the Gila River Indian Community. Its current network has fifteen elementary schools, six middle schools, and one K–8 campus. Most students change schools after elementary grades; Kyrene Traditional Academy preserves one continuous K–8 model. High school always belongs to a separate district.
The 2026–27 map reflects a major consolidation. Kyrene de la Colina, Kyrene de la Estrella, and Kyrene de las Manitas closed, and nine additional schools received boundary changes. The district’s two dual-language academies also became open-enrollment-only schools without attendance boundaries, turning them from neighborhood assignments into application-based choices.
Three more closures are approved for 2027–28: Kyrene Traditional Academy, Akimel A-al Middle School, and Kyrene del Pueblo Middle School. The current K–8 option and middle-school map will exist only through the 2026–27 school year. Kyrene is operating one configuration now while preparing for another approved configuration in 2027–28.
